Demetrious Johnson discussed the Mount Rushmore of MMA greats on his YouTube channel. He listed the four greatest fighters of all time, and he came up just shy of first place.
Demetrious ranks him behind Johnson on the list, citing the fact that no other fighter in the flyweight or any other class has been able to do what he has. It was aided by his eleven straight title defenses that he was able to make the transfer.
Why Does Demetrious Johnson Place Himself Above The GOAT Anderson Silva?
Longtime UFC champions Georges St-Pierre at No. 3 and Anderson Silva at No. 4 are right behind Johnson Demetrious on his list.
When Johnson compares himself to Silva, he gives himself the advantage since he thinks Silva is less inclined to blend martial arts techniques aggressively in an attempt to reach a finish.
Johnson, who is ranked No. 7 on MMA Fighting’s Pound-for-Pound list, has many of his colleagues beaten in one category: championship finishes. Johnson has successfully defended his title seven times in a row, a UFC record. Johnson believes that his killing instinct puts him ahead of both Silva and St-Pierre, the dominant welterweight champion who frequently went to the scorecards.
As per, MMA Fighting, Demetrious said, “ Typically, I don’t put myself above people, since we’re having this discussion I’ll go ahead and make an argument for myself why I believe I’m in that top 4.”
When it was time to rank the top 1 fighter Johnson said, “Jon ‘Bones’ Jones,” Johnson said when announcing his No. 1 fighter. “That is the only man that I’ll put ahead of me because this man, I feel like every single time he has been inside the cage he could just destroy his opponent however you want it.”
Johnson ranks only current UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones higher on his list of the greatest fighters of all time. Jones has never really lost in a fight, dominating the light heavyweight class for years with victories over several big-name opponents.
