At UFC 286 earlier this month, Gaethje got back on track with a victory by a majority decision against Rafael Fiziev. That victory cemented Gaethje’s position as one of the top five lightweights and moved him within one victory of another title chance; however, there may be a hole the size of Conor McGregor in that plan.

Gaejthe has stated that if “Notorious” McGregor moves up to lightweight before his comeback to the cage later this year against Michael Chandler, he will likely retire from MMA. Naturally, that rubbed McGregor the wrong way.

‘Two title attempt no win’- Justin Gaethje brutally mocked for his failed UFC title shots

If Conor McGregor wins his comeback fight, the former UFC lightweight and lightweight champion Justin Gaethje might retire from mixed martial arts.

McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) is set to return to the octagon later this year for a welterweight showdown with Michael Chandler. Given McGregor’s fame, a championship opportunity is certainly within reach should he prevail, especially given the number of opponents who have dared to challenge him.

Gaethje (24-4 MMA, 7-4 UFC) would be devastated if that were to occur.

Gaethje said that he doesnt want Conor to take the position for which he has trained and worked hard for all these years. He said that he doesnt, want the situation to occur.

In response, McGregor went on Twitter.

“This braindead fool got a title shot off of one single win and it was vs chandler,” McGregor tweeted. “Yet he will quit and retire if I get the same thing. Classic Gathje bird brain. #Jackass Two Title attempt. No wins.” #Geathje.

Though McGregor soon took down his tweet it wasn’t soon enough for his fans to not notice.

Since capturing the lightweight title in 2016, McGregor’s luck in the ring has been less than stellar. His MMA record since then is 1–3, with his lone victory coming in a 2020 welterweight bout against Donald Cerrone.

McGregor has lately suffered two defeats at the hands of Dustin Poirier, the most recent coming when he fractured his leg in the opening round of their rematch.

Since then, McGregor has been recuperating; nonetheless, he is scheduled to fight Chandler later this year. The two men met while coaching on Season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter, with McGregor facing Chandler’s previous Bellator promotion.
