Despite becoming famous for his vicious left hand and precise striking, McGregor’s ground game is actually very underrated. He trains with his coach John Kavanaugh, who is the first ever Irish man to get Jiu-Jitsu a black belt.
Back in 2020, before his fight against Donald Cerrone, McGregor’s coach Kavanaugh revealed that the Irishman was very close to securing his black belt in Jiu-Jitsu. However, when asked about what McGregor had to do to get it, Kavanaugh did not reveal anything.

So for now, Conor McGregor has a brown belt in Jiu-Jitsu. However, as Kavanaugh said, it is only a matter of time before McGregor gets his black belt. It might even happen in his next fight if he can use his Jiu-Jitsu to great effect.

McGregor achieved all his goals from this tweet, except the black belt. Therefore, you can be sure he will want that elusive belt before he calls it a day. ‘The Notorious’ has always worked hard towards getting what he wants, and it will be no different for his Jiu-Jitsu black belt.
Only time will tell whether McGregor will realize all his dreams from the tweet back in 2013 or whether he will have to retire without a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu.
