Dustin Poirier and Beneil Dariush have been linked to fight one other many times in recent years. The bout never happened, as the two fighters pursued different paths to win the undisputed UFC champion. Beneil Dariush seems to have lost interest in fighting Poirier, viewing him as “a little too comfortable” at this point. In the historic BMF championship match at UFC 291, Dustin Poirier lost by stunning knockout to Justin Gaethje. The official UFC lightweight rankings now put “The Diamond” in third place, however, he does not officially have a bout booked for his comeback.
When Might Dustin Poirier Make His Possible Return After Failed Fight With Beneil Dariush?
In a recent interview with Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour podcast, Poirier expressed his desire to compete on the historic UFC 300 show, which is slated to take place in April 2024. However, the uncertainty surrounding the opponent’s identity has clouded the possibility of a UFC 300 comeback.
Conor McGregor, Poirier’s bitter opponent and a former two-division UFC champion, is hoping for a fourth fight with “The Diamond” because he believes that their business is still “unfinished.”
On December 2, 2023, Beneil Dariush will face up-and-coming fighter Arman Tsarukyan in the UFC Austin event. He just had an open discussion about his impending battle with Submission Radio. Reminded of the impending encounter with Dustin Poirier, Dariush stated that ‘The Diamond’ is not nearly as formidable a foe as the youthful Tsarukyan. He clarified:
“The way I look at it, Dustin makes more sense in terms of rankings… In terms of, you know, visibility, in terms of everything, right? But, on paper, I think Arman is a tougher fighter. He’s got better skills in terms of grappling. He’s younger, I would say he’s hungrier.”

Beneil Dariush made it clear that his statement is entirely his own and may not be accurate, but he is more likely to take on difficult tasks than to go against fighters with better rankings since doing so would increase his exposure to fight fans.
