While stepping up to light heavyweight is likely to avoid Pereira another hard weight reduction, it seems “Poatan,” who lost the middleweight championship in his “Last Stylebender” rematch, will be faced with a similar path.

Dana White Disregards Immediate Light Heavyweight Title Shot for ex-UFC Champion ‘Poatan’, Here’s Why Alex Pereira Has To Prove To Be Worthy Of 205

White was asked during the UFC Kansas City post-fight news conference if the company has any plans for Adesanya’s next bout after he knocked out Alex Pereira at UFC 287 to regain the middleweight belt. After suffering three defeats at the hands of “Poatan” in mixed martial arts and kickboxing, the popular Adesanya finally got his revenge against Pereira. Now, there’s a discussion of a rematch between the two fighters.

White is making it a top priority to find Pereira an opponent in the light heavyweight division after Pereira shot it down earlier this week when he stated he is moving up to the middleweight weight category.

Dana in an interview said “You put him in title contention and then he has to beat someone to even be considered in title contention,” White said. “He’s got to move to 205 and beat a real guy, so that’s what we’re looking at right now, getting a real guy.”

The journey henceforth for Poatan will be a difficult one, as he will be soon turning 35 in July. Pereira will also have to prove that he is worthy of the decision he has made for himself after his loss to the current champion Israel Adesanya. Poatan will definitely give us one of the best performances in his first fight at 205 pounds.
