UFC Provides Information On When Islam Makhachev Is Making A Return

It's interesting to note that MMA writer Ariel Helwani revealed that the UFC lightweight champion and Oliveira will rematch in January.

The timeline for Islam Makhachev’s next bout has seemingly been confirmed by his manager and the UFC.

Makhachev was last seen in action against Alexander Volkanovski in a highly anticipated rematch last month at UFC 294. While their first fight was very closely contested, the rematch, however, was won by the Dagestani in the very first round via TKO.

UFC: Islam Makhachev To Make His Return For Charles Oliveira Fight

Islam Makhachev defeated Alexander Volkanovski with a brutal head kick, and he was pummeled by punches after that. Although Makhachev prevailed via TKO, Volkanovski’s partner Craig Jones disclosed that the UFC lightweight champion could have sustained serious injuries to his leg.

Much has been spoken about Islam Makhachev’s next championship defense since the fight. Charles Oliveira, who was originally scheduled to face Makhachev at UFC 294, has been identified as the next in line. The news that the Dagestani would be facing Oliveira again in January appears to be official now.

“So I think the intention from Dana and the matchmakers is to make that fight but we don’t have any confirmation yet nor do we know a date but we need some fights for the first few months of 2024.”

David Shaw, senior vice president for foreign operations at the organisation, discussed it at a news conference held at UFC Sao Paulo.

It’s interesting to note that MMA writer Ariel Helwani revealed that the lightweight champion Oliveira will rematch in January.
