Dustin Poirier, a fellow former interim champion of Gaethje, will be the promotion’s main attraction when it returns to Salt Lake City, Utah. The two first met in the Octagon back in 2018.

After defeating Gaethje through standing TKO in the fourth round, Poirier went on to defeat the former featherweight champion by majority decision to earn the interim lightweight title.
Renato Moicano, a member of the American Top Team, believes that if Poirier or Gaethje loses in Utah in their quest for a title rematch with Charles Oliveira following their upcoming UFC 294 rematch, they will likely end their careers in mixed martial arts.

Poirier bounced to the winner’s circle at UFC 281 back in November, defeating common-enemy Michael Chandler with a third-round rear-naked choke at Madison Square Garden. Both fighters are riding victories in their flagship main event at the end of this month.
Gaethje, an Arizona veteran who has already competed this year, defeated Rafael Fiziev by a narrow majority decision at UFC 286 back in March in London, England.
The main event between Poirier and Gaethje will be followed by a potential title-eliminator match between Jan Blachowicz and Alex Pereira at the light heavyweight limit.
