According to Sergei Pavlovich’s manager Ali Abdelaziz (@AliAbdelaziz00), he will be the heavyweight backup in this week’s UFC 285 main event, Okamoto tweeted. During the UFC Fight Night 220 post-fight news conference, UFC president Dana White announced that there would be an alternate for the heavyweight title match, but he did not reveal who that fighter would be.

Pavlovich (17-1) has been on a complete blast since suffering a defeat in his UFC debut in November 2018. He has defeated five straight opponents to firmly establish himself as the No. 3 contender in the current standings of the organization.

On April 22, 2023, the heavyweight fight between Sergei Pavlovich and Curtis Blaydes will be the main event of a UFC Fight Night program. It’s unclear whether Pavlovich’s rumored backup booking for UFC 285 will affect his confirmed matchup with Blaydes.
