Interestingly, there was a lot of speculation surrounding a matchup between Beneil Dariush and Dustin Porier for the number one contender. However, this matchup didn’t come to fruition and Dariush ended up booking a fight with Gamrot instead.

Beneil Dariush was supposed to take on Islam Makhachev back in February this year. However, he was forced out of the bout because of an leg injury. This matchup against Mateuz Gamrot will present itself as a great opportunity for Darius to potentially get a title shot as well.

Speaking about his upcoming fight against Mateuz Gamrot, Beneil Dariush said:

“This is the No. 1 contender fight. Winner gets to fight for the belt. I’m definitely happy with this matchup. I just want to fight the best.”

It is safe to say that the stakes are pretty high for this fight and Beneil Dairush knows what’s on the line.

Mateuz Gamrot himself is considered to be one of the best Lightweights on the planet. He is coming off a recent hard fought victory over Arman Tsarukyan and is on a four-fight winning streak.
