A Barcelona statement said: ‘The player has undergone a diagnostic and therapeutic process by Doctor Josep Brugada and will be out of action during the next three months as the effectiveness of treatment is evaluated.’

The 33-year-old spent Sunday and Monday in hospital in Barcelona as extensive cardiac tests were carried out.

According to reports in Spanish media, Aguero has reportedly been ‘diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat’.

A preliminary diagnosis suggested he was suffering from heart arrhythmia.

On Monday night, the striker tweeted: ‘I am fine and in good spirits to face the recovery process. I want to thank everyone for so many messages of support and affection that make my heart stronger today.’ </

Sergio Aguero Health Update: The 33-year-old was taken to hospital in an ambulance after suffering from chest pains and breathing difficulties during Barcelona’s 1-1 draw with Alaves.

He fell to the floor and needed treatment from medics after being seen clutching his chest.

  • Aguero is reported to have been suffering from a high heart rate.
  • Tests at Barcelona Hospital showed the former Manchester City man to have a ‘cardiac arrhythmia,’ according to well-respected Spanish outlet SPORT.
  • The report goes on to claim that further in-depth tests will be carried out, but he is said to have already been diagnosed with an irregular heartbeat.

What exactly happened? During Barcelona’s game vs Alaves, Aguero went down clutching the top of his chest and received treatment for several minutes before being helped off the pitch just before half-time.

Ambulance was called and Aguero was immediately taken to hospital. The calming thing for fans was that Aguero was seen standing on his feet instead of being stretchered off.

Barcelona later confirmed he was admitted to hospital to have a “cardiac exam”.
Aguero joined Catalan giants Barcelona in the summer after ten trophy-laden years at Manchester City.

And his former club tweeted their well wishes to Aguero, saying: “Everyone at Manchester City wishes you a speedy recovery, “We’re with you.”

Raheem Sterling also sent his well wishes to his ex-teammate, tweeting: “Stay strong my brother @aguerosergiokun, we’re all with you. Get well soon.”

The striker has scored one goal in five appearances in all competitions since his switch to Camp Nou.
