Twitch Gambling: Sodapoppin revealed how gambling on Twitch might be temporary
Twitch gambling has been a regular debate topic among streamers on the platform, with many of them sharing their takes on the situation. Sodapoppin, during a recent stream, was discussing the issue when he came across an article on Bloomberg that spoke about the effects of popular Twitch streamers gambling on the platform. While the article primarily spoke about how Twitch streamers gambling on the platform had negatively impacted viewers and fans, a certain section of the article caught the OTK streamer’s eye, as it mentioned that gambling might not be a permanent feature on Twitch.
According to the article, a Twitch spokesperson had recently revealed to Bloomberg that the gambling feature might not be permanent on Twitch. In fact, according to the official, the platform was currently deep in the midst of looking at the effects of gambling and the behavioral impact it had on the viewers of the platform.
“[The company is] currently in the midst of a deep-dive look into gambling behavior on Twitch.“
Furthermore, Twitch officials were even looking to stop link sharing and referrals on gambling streams, since the same had led to multiple scams and fraudulent behavior. This came in light of the fact that popular Twitch streamers like xQc and TrainwrecksTV would share referral codes and links on their chat. Naturally, since this led to a bunch of scams on the part of viewers, the platform has decided to stop link sharing and referrals on gambling streams.
Speaking about the issue, the Twitch spokesperson added, “We take any potential harm to our community extremely seriously. While gambling content represents a very small fraction of the content streamed on Twitch, we monitor it closely to ensure our approach mitigates potential harm to our global community.”
Since the confirmation came from Twitch officials, fans can be sure that they will not see gambling streams on the platform for very long. However, when the ban will be placed on gambling streams still remains to be seen.
Many popular streamers have shared their take on gambling streams on Twitch in the past
Over the past few years, gambling streams have become a major topic for debate in the Twitch community. While popular streamers like Pokimane have shared that they have received offers to gamble on livestream, they refrained from accepting those offers from a moral point of view. Pokimane believes that a large part of her viewership is under the age of 18, therefore it is the streamer’s responsibility to not promote addictive content on their platforms.
On the other hand, streamers like xQc openly gamble on livestream, but always maintain that they do so since they can afford to do it and genuinely enjoy the same. Lately, however, xQc confessed that he has lost a lot of money gambling, but he mostly resorts to doing the same offline, so his viewers cannot get influenced by his choices.

Although the streamer previously used to partake in gambling streams, he stopped later on because he realized that it was harmful for his audience and himself as well. The wake up call came for the streamer when he allegedly saw a 14-year-old fan gambling on a site that he had promoted on his platform.
“I stopped because I just felt genuinely bad.”
Although gambling consists of a very small portion of the vast variety of content that Twitch contains, it is considered one of the most harmful genres since it openly promotes addiction. Twitch even introduced a Safety Centre on its platform, which allows any user suffering from addiction to seek help.
