Atsu played for several years in England’s top flight division for teams like Chelsea, Newcastle, Everton and Bournemouth. He made over 100 appearances for the Magpies before moving to Saudi Arabia in 2021, where he represented Al-Raed. His stay in the middle east country was a short one as he shifted his base to Turkey, where he joined Hatayspor.in 2022.
Christian Atsu Missing
According to multiple reports from Turkey, the 31-year-old former Chelsea and Newcastle player, now playing for Turkish side Hatayspor, is reportedly missing along with the sporting director, Taner Savut. Before the earthquake Atsu had the winning goal in the home game against Kasimpasa. Atsu spent five seasons at Newcastle, first joining on loan in 2016 from Chelsea and helping the club win promotion back to the Premier League.

Teams affected by Turkey earthquake
Apart from Atsu, Turkey goalkeeper Eyup Turkaslan, who plays for Yeni Malatyaspor, was also among the many trapped under the rubble. The club shared a photo of him on social media, and wrote: “Our prayers are with you”. There is also reports of Marasspor players staying in a hotel wrecked by the quake have also emerged. It is also feared that a men’s volleyball team and a girls’ under-14 volleyball team have also been severely impacted with the disaster, as some of the survivors were rescued from the rubble.
Following the first earthquake, Turkey was struck with a second jolt while the rescue operation were underway. The second tremors were measured at 7.5 on the Richter scale and as per fresh development the country experienced a third jolt of 6.0 magnitude.
