Indigenous delegates from Antigua and Barbuda, New Zealand, Australia, the Bahamas, Belize, Canada, Grenada, Jamaica, Papua New Guinea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, and Saint Vincent and the Grenadines signed the letter before Charles was crowned on Saturday.

The context of the letter stated, “We, the undersigned, call on the British Monarch, King Charles III, on the date of his coronation being May 6, 2023, to acknowledge the horrific impacts on and legacy of genocide and colonisation of the indigenous and enslaved peoples,” the signatories said in a letter, titled Apology, Reparation, and Repatriation of Artefacts and Remains.

“Our collective Indigenous Rights Organisations among other organisations who are working to help our communities recover from centuries of racism, oppression, colonialism and slavery, now rightly recognized by the United Nations as ‘Crimes Against Humanity,’ also call for a formal apology and for a process of reparatory justice to commence,” it said.

Andrew Tate’s brother Tristan Tate seems to consider the given situation in a different way as he tweets on his Twitter account, “You cannot judge the people of the past by the standards of today. You also can’t apologise on behalf of your ancestors for what they did centuries before you were born. None of these 12 nations would exist if it were not for the British Empire. Do. Not. Apologise.”

Given the fact that Tristan Tate’s late father was also a black man, he begs to differ. He says there is no point in considering the brutal history and asking the present-day generation to apologise for what their forefathers had done of which they had no control over that span of time.
