Toto Wolff Reveals Team’s Involvement in Brad Pitt starrer F1 Movie Project

Mercedes team Honcho recently talked about the team's involvement in a super exciting movie project

Brad Pitt and the crew of his upcoming Formula 1-themed movie have reached Silverstone ahead of the 2023 British GP. Movie royalty Joseph Kosinski is leading the crew into this star-studded event. F1 legend Lewis Hamilton is working closely with the top management of the movie as an advisor. However, the Mercedes Luminary is not alone involved in this massive project. Silver Arrows team is also giving constant backend support to the director and his crew.

Hamilton has time and again talked very fondly about this project. The yet-to-be-named movie plot revolved around a veteran driver Sonny Hayes, played by Brad Pitt making a comeback to active racing. The major sub-plot revolves around his relationship with his up-and-coming teammate Joshua Pierce, played by Damson Idris. Hamilton has even said that fans might witness him in a small cameo role in the movie. However, he did not make any promises yet.

The 7-time world champion in his capacity of executive producer is constantly monitoring the authenticity of the script. In recent developments, the production unit of the film has set up a garage at the Silverstone pit lane with style banners above the two doors donning the names of the two fictional characters. The F2-adapted car that highly resembles the Lotus F1 car from the 2013 season will take part in the formation lap of the British GP to capture some on-track action.

Toto Wolff opens up about Mercedes’s Involvement in the project

Mercedes team Honcho recently talked about the team’s involvement in a super exciting movie project. Notably, the fictional F1 car in the movie dons an AMG logo. Moreover, Mercedes has helped give that car a makeover to suit the film narrative. For shooting purposes, racing drivers Craig Dolby and Luciano Bacheta will take the wheel of the car at this year’s British GP.

Talking about the movie and Mercedes’ involvement, Wolff had some great snippets to share. “We’ve been involved pretty early and I think when we had the first discussions, we sent Brad to a driving school in France, going through the formula cars from F4 all the way up,” said Wolff

“And we tried to be helpful with the narrative. Lewis is an executive producer, so he wanted to make sure when the movie comes out, it’s as realistic as possible. “And we had a few laughs – but I think it’s a very good narrative, and the effort they’ve put in, we helped them – it was Fred [Vasseur’s] idea, I think – to use an F2 car and build the bodywork around it that looks like an F1 car,” added the Austrian.
