India and Sri Lanka have faced each other seven times in the past Asia Cup finals, with India leading head-to-head 4-3.

Fans have been eagerly waiting for the IND vs SL final in the ODI Asia Cup 2023, which is all set to be played on September 17 at R. Premadasa Stadium. The two Asian giants have faced each other seven times in the finals of the prior 13 editions and also have 11 titles amongst themselves. IND vs SL: Asia Cup 2004 Final

A contest for the ages occurred in the ODI Asia Cup 2004 Final. Batting first, Sri Lanka made 228 runs in their quota of 50 overs. Sri Lankan skipper Marvin Atapattu and Kumar Sangakkara both scored fifties to take their side past 200.

In reply, India managed to get just 203 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. For India, only Sachin Tendulkar stood, scoring 74 runs (the top score of the match) after picking up two wickets in the first inning.

A late resurgence by Zaheer Khan gave India hope but proved to be a little too late.

IND vs SL: Asia Cup 1988 Final

The first India vs Sri Lanka final in the event saw the Men in Blue win by 6 wickets as Navjot Singh Sindhu starred with the bat, scoring 76 runs as India chased the target of 177 comfortably.

Sindhu was awarded the ‘Player of the Series’ award for his 176 runs in the tournament.

IND vs SL: Asia Cup 2010 Final

The last time the two sides faced each other in the Final was in 2010.

Despite failing to build partnerships, India made 268 runs, with Dinesh Karthik scoring 66 while opening.

In reply, Sri Lanka succumbed to just 187, losing half their side for just 51. Chamara Kapugedera tried to salvage Lanka but fell short. Ashish Nehra made merry with the ball, picking up four wickets.

IND vs SL: Asia Cup 1991 Final

Another dominant display by India saw them win by 7 wickets.

After Kapil Dev restricted Sri Lanka to just 204 by picking up 4 wickets for just 31 runs, Indian batting chased the total with ease.

The trio of Sanjay Manjrekar, Sachin Tendulkar, and Mohammad Azharuddin all scored half-centuries to take India home.

IND vs SL: Asia Cup 2008 Final

After Sanath Jayasuriya’s brilliance with the bat (125 runs) helped Sri Lanka reach 273, their bowling attack led by Ajanta Mendis wreaked havoc on India.

Mendis ran through the Indian batting lineup, picking up 6 wickets for just 13 runs as India lost the match by 100 runs.
