Top contenders for the Player of the Tournament award in the World Cup 2023
  1. Virat Kohli: After failing to score 500 runs in the past three editions of the tournament, former skipper Kohli has smashed the record for most runs in a single ODI World Cup. Having already scored 711 runs in 10 innings at an average of 101.57 and three tons and five fifties to his name.
  2. Marco Jansen: One of the finds of the tournament, Jansen has taken 17 wickets in 8 innings and has scored 157 runs, including a blistering 75* off 42 balls. The all-rounder has left his mark on the cricket community by performing on the biggest stage. Jansen has been so good that he has upstaged his more experienced teammates, Lungi Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada.
  3. Mohammed Shami: Arguably the best ODI World Cup bowler of all time, Shami has 23 scalps to his name in just 6 innings, taking almost 4 wickets in an innings, and that too at an exceptionally low average of 9.13. The right-arm pacer became the quickest to 50 World Cup wickets and needs just one wicket to enter the top 5 highest wicket-takers in ODI World Cup history.
  4. Adam Zampa: After a poor start to the tournament, taking just one wicket in the first two matches, Zampa has roared back, picking up a total of 22 wickets in 9 innings. The leg spinner is heads and shoulders above the next-best bowler from his side, Josh Hazlewood, who has 12 scalps to his name.
  5. Rachin Ravindra: This contender came out of nowhere. Initially picked as a replacement for injured Kane Williamson, Ravindra ended the tournament as New Zealand’s highest run scorer. Ravindra scored the most runs in a single World Cup by a Kiwi and raked up the most tons by a New Zealand player (3) as he took his side to the semifinals.
