Golf @3:00 AM – Aditi Ashok, Diksha Dagar (Women’s individual- Round 4)
Aditi Ashok has raised India’s medal hopes as she is currently second after the end of Round 3 in the women’s individual golf event at the Tokyo Olympics. The 23-year-old, who is featuring in her second Olympics, did well to finish three strokes behind World No.1 Nelly Korda of the USA. Ashok’s counterpart, Diksha Dagar carded a second straight 72 and moved up two places to tied 51st with 220. While the former will hope to continue her impressive form and finish on the podium, the latter would hope for a final flourish to finish higher in the starting.
Athletics @4:30 PM – Neeraj Chopra (Men’s Javelin throw finals)
Neeraj Chopra is India’s biggest gold medal hope at the Tokyo Olympics as he prepares to take the field in the men’s javelin throw final on Saturday. The 23-year-old kept India’s hopes of an elusive Olympic medal from track and field events alive by earning direct qualification into the finals with a stunning throw of 86.65m that put him on top of others on Wednesday. Should Neeraj Chopra clinch a podium, it will be India’s first medal in track and field events since Norman Pritchard won two silvers during the 1900 Olympics.
Wrestling @TBD: Bajrang Punia vs TBD (Men’s freestyle 65kg Bronze medal match)
World No.1 Bajrang Punia’s hopes of claiming a gold medal were dealt with a cruel blow after he was knocked out in the semi-final men’s freestyle 65kg event on Friday. Haji Aliyev of Azerbaijan dominated the proceedings as he handed Bajrang a 12-5 loss. The 27-year-old will now fight for pride in the bronze medal match on Saturday. Punia has bagged medals at the Commonwealth Games and the Asian Games so far, and will be keen to add an Olympics podium finish to his tally.
