Who will PV Sindhu face in the Quarterfinals & when is the match scheduled?

Sindhu is likely to play host nation’s Akane Yamaguchi in the Quarterfinals. Yamaguchi is scheduled to play Korean Kim Gaeun in the Last 16 match.

Tokyo Olympics Badminton LIVE – PV Sindhu beat Mia Blichfeldt: Tokyo Olympics Badminton LIVE: Brilliant PV Sindhu enters quarterfinals, thrashes Mia Blichfeldt 21-15, 21-13 in completely one-sided match: Sindhu started well in the match after trailing 0-2 as she held the advantage throughout, taking an 11-6 lead into the mid-game interval. Mia gained some ground after the interval as Danish closed the gap to just two points but Sindhu came roaring back and later took six points in a row to finish the first set in 22 minutes — 21-15. In the second set, Sindhu continued with her momentum from the first, and with some beautiful cross-court downward shots, she took the lead by 5 points in the mid-game interval. Blichfeldt tried to stay in the game by playing some long rallies but the sixth-seed showed her invaluable experience and cruised into the next round as she took the game 21-13.

On Wednesday, Sindhu defeated Hong Kong’s Ngan Yi Cheung in straight sets 21-9, 21-16 to cruise into the elimination round of women’s singles. This was the second successive win for the 2016 silver medallist who earlier on Sunday started her Tokyo campaign on a good note after defeating Israel’s Ksenia Polikarpova 21-7, 21-10. The entire match lasted for just 28 minutes.

  • World No 7 Sindhu will meet Denmark’s world number 12 Mia Blichfeldt, who topped Group I.
  • Sindhu has a 4-1 head-to-head record against Blichfeldt, whose only win against the Indian was at the Yonex Thailand Open earlier this year.
  • But Dane is now a much improved player and that shows in her performance.
  • This year, the duo have met twice already this year, with the Dane clinching a memorable win at the Yonex Thailand Open. Sindhu won at the Swiss Open and has the overall advantage
  • Blichfelft current form will make the challenge very difficult for Sindhu. The Indian herself acknowledges it.

Sindhu vs Blichfelft LIVE: Sindhu has so far lived up to expectations, clinching dominant wins in the group stage. She bagged a 21-7, 21-10 win over Ksenia Polikarpova in her opener, before a 21-9, 21-16 win over Cheung Ngan Yi to seal progress to the knockouts.  Ngan Yi made the Indian work in the second game and ut was tight with scores tied at 13-13 before Sindhu rallied to take control and seal the match.

Her opponent, Mia Blichfeldt also claimed impressive wins in the group stage, beating Hsuan-Yu Wendy Chen 21-7, 21-14 and Linda Zetchiri 21-10, 21-3. Blichfeldt is 12th in the BWF Women’s singles rankings, while Sindhu is some distance ahead at seventh.
