TNPL 2023 Auction Highlights: Tamil Nadu Premier League 2023 – Two days of action in the inaugural TNPL Auction has come to an end. In the accelerated bidding process on Day 2, Kiran Aakash became the expensive player. He bagged a 6.5 lakh contract with Lyca Kovai Kings. Day 1 of the first-ever auction saw Tamil Nadu and Gujarat Titans batter Sai Sudharsan hit jackpot as he became the most expensive player. Lyca Kovai Kings splurged 21.6 lakhs to for the opener. TNPL 2023 Auction Highlights: Sai Sudharsan, Sanjay Yadav & Sonu Yadav most expensive buys as 8 teams set squads for TNPL 2023 – Watch TNPL Auction Highlights
Sanjay Yadav was bought by four-time champions Chepauk Super Gillies for 17.6 lakhs. Nellai Royal Kings spent 15.2 Lakhs to snatch all-rounder Sonu Yadav. Sai Kishore, who plays for Gujarat Giants in the IPL has bagged a 13 lakhs contract with Tirupur Tamizhans. Vijay Shankar too was bought by the team for 10.25 lakhs.
India All-rounder Washington Sundar and Mystery Spinner Varun Chakravarthy bagged 6.75 lakhs each. Madurai Panthers picked Sundar, while Dindigul Dragons bought Varun Chakravarthy.
The surprise picks were Shivam Singh who fetched Rs 15.95 lakhs (Dindigul Dragons) and Swapnil Singh who went for Rs 12 lakhs to Madurai.
The seventh edition of the eight-team league is expected to be played between June and July. For the last six seasons, draft method was used to pick the players. Ahead of this year’s edition, the TNPL Governing council decided to introduce the auction. The total bid for each franchises is fixed at Rs, 70 Lakh.

Teams were also asked to retain a maximum of two players after dividing them in different categories. Players have been classified into four different groups based on the base price.
Price division
- Category A – Rs. 10 lakhs for Category A (players who have represented International matches)
- Category B – Rs. 6 lakhs for Category B (players who have represented senior BCCI domestic matches)
- Category C – Rs. 3 Lakhs for Category C (players who are not in Category A or B but who have played more than 30 TNPL matches)
- Category D – Rs. 1.50 Lakhs for Category D player (other players)
Teams were allowed to retain a maximum of two players (one in category A or B, other in Category C or D). All the eight teams were allowed to have a squad strength of a minimum of 16 players and a maximum of 20 players.
