Tim Paine Retirement: Tim Paine, the former captain of Australia, has announced his retirement from first-class cricket following Tasmania’s tie with Queensland in the season’s final Sheffield Shield match. His 18-year career has been filled with ups and downs.
Although Paine, 38, told the Tasmanian team that the match against Queensland would be his last, he had not made any public announcements about it.

As he passed through a guard of honour at Bellerive Oval in Hobart to signify his retirement from all formats of domestic cricket, Paine waved goodbye.
The 38-year-old was applauded as he left the field. The player made his debut for Tasmania in 2005 and later played 35 Tests for Australia.
“He’s been a phenomenal player,” Tasmanian captain Jordan Silk noted.
“It’s an effort to have the longevity that he’s had.”
“He’s certainly going to be missed behind the stumps. I don’t think there will ever be another wicket-keeper as good as Tim Paine in Australia,” he added.
An inspiring captain, one of our finest glovesman, and a legend of Tasmanian and Australian cricket.

Paine received a guard of honour as he exited Bellerive Oval for the final time following the early ending of the game, which both captains decided to call after just 62 overs of the final day due to an impossibility of a result.
Tim Paine Domestic Career
Paine played 95 matches for his state and concluded with a Tasmanian record of 196 dismissals before resigning as Australia Test captain before the Ashes in 2021 due to a sexting scandal.
Despite not having a state contract, he returned to the Tasmanian lineup earlier in the season through the one-day competition.
After being reinstated, Paine scored 156 runs in his seven games for the Shield squad this year.
