Thomas Cup Quarterfinals LIVE – India vs Malaysia LIVE: Indian men’s Badminton team scripted history on Thursday as they defeated Malaysia 3-2 in the quarterfinals of Thomas Cup 2022. Both India and Malaysia won two matches each in the tie and it was left to the last singles match to decide the winner. India’s HS Prannoy clinched a straight set victory over Leong Jun Hao to take his team to the semifinal.

  • Kidambi Srikanth beat Ng Tze Yong 21-11, 21-17
  • HS Prannoy beat Leong Jun Hao 21-13, 21-8 
  • Chirag Shetty / Satwiksairajrankireddy beat Goh Sir Fei / Nur Izuddin 21-15, 21-19
  • Garaga / Panjala lost to Aaron Chia / Teo Ee Yi 19-21, 17-21

Thomas Cup Quarterfinals LIVE: India SCRIPT HISTORY, beat five-time champion Malaysia to reach Thomas Cup SEMIFINAL after 43 years

India got off to a bad start in the quarterfinals against Malaysia as Laksya Sen lost the first singles tie against Lee Zii Jia 23-21, 21-9. This was Lakshya Sen’s first-ever defeat against the Malaysian. However it was not the World No.9’s day as with this loss, he has now faced two straight defeats in the tournament.

Despite Lakshya’s loss India made a brilliant comeback as Men’s doubles duo of Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy clinched victory and Srikanth too won his game in straight sets to give India 2-1 lead.

India then suffered a defeat in straight sets in the second men’s doubles as Garaga and Panjala lost to Aaron Chia and Teo Ee Yi in straight sets as the final men’s single contest became the decider. HS Prannoy took on Leong Jun Hao and he was dominant throughout the match as he clinched a 21-13, 21-8 victory to help India  enter the semifinals after 43 years in Thomas Cup.

The victory means team India are assured of a medal in the Thomas Cup. India will now face World No.1 Viktor Axelsen led Denmark team in the semifinals.
