Kidambi Srikanth started off the proceedings for India by defeating Canada’s Brian Yang in three sets with a come-from-behind victory after losing the first set. From then on, India continued their good show by tasting victories in all their remaining matches to continue their unbeaten run in the tournament.

First Men’s Singles – Kidambi Srikanth vs Brian Yang 

Srikanth started the game with an early 3-1 lead. However, he lost momentum as thee Canadian soon took the lead. Srikanth fought bravely and a neck-to-neck battle ensued but Yang didn’t give up his lead as he entered the break with a 11-8 lead. After the break Kidambi bounced back in the contest and took a 16-13 lead. When it looked like the Indian is all set to win the first set, the momentum yet again shifted towards Yang as he clawed his way back into the contest and won the set 22-20.

In the second set too Srikanth was trailing with the score at 3-6. However Yang committed way too many errors helping Srikanth slowly reduce the deficit andake the lead as the Indian went into the break with a 11-9 lead. Srikanth capitalised on the opportunity this time and he dominated completely as he won the set 21-11. In the third set too the Indian completely took the game away from his opponent as he won 21-15 to start the day for India on a victorious note.

Second Men’s Singles – HS Prannoy vs BR Sankeerth 

BR Sankeerth, who is ranked 82nd in the world started off the contest with an early lead. The experienced Prannoy, however soon caught up as he lead 11-9 by the mid-set break in the first game. Despite challenge from Sankeerth, Prannoy maintained his lead and repeatedly challenged the Canadian with close net shots and cross-court smashes as he won the first set 21-15.

In the second set too Prannoy showcased his dominance as he challenged the Canadian with angular shots. By the first set break, he led 11-9. Sankeerth commiteed way too many errors in the second-half as Prannoy raced to a 18-9 lead and won the set easily 21-12.

Priyanshu Rajawat vs Victor Lai

Priyanshu Rajawat made his debut in the tournament in style as he won the final men’s singles contest of the day against Victor Lai 21-13, 20-22, 21-14 in 52 minutes.

Men’s Doubles – The doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty then needed just 29 minutes to beat Jason Anthony Ho-Shue and Kevin Lee before world number 23 H S Prannoy easily won his singles match against B R Sankeerth 21-15, 21-12 to make it 3-0 and clinch the tie for India

The second doubles pair of Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala was also too good for the duo of Dong Adam and Nyl Yakura in the match that the Indians won 21-15, 21-11 in 34 minutes.
