Chelsea’s Statement
Chelsea will now face Leeds United in the Premier League before facing Dortmund at home in the UEFA Champions League, where they are 1-0 down on aggregate.
This was the club statement: “Having sustained a knee injury during the first half of Sunday’s match against Tottenham Hotspur, Thiago underwent further assessment and a scan on his return to the training centre on Monday.”
“Scan results from those assessments have confirmed damage to Thiago’s knee ligaments and he will now work closely with the club’s medical department during his rehabilitation to return to action as soon as possible.”

Thiago Silva Injury Update: How many matches could Thiago Silva potentially miss?
Silva’s availability for Chelsea’s crucial Champions League last-16 second leg against Borussia Dortmund would be jeopardized if the time frame of six weeks applies. Moreover, if Chelsea advances to the quarter-finals, the Brazilian defender’s participation would also be uncertain.
If the injury timeline is correct, Silva will miss clashes against Leicester, Everton, Aston Villa, Liverpool, and possibly Wolves.
What other options does Chelsea have?
After spending a mammoth £553.95m in this season’s transfer windows, Chelsea has plenty of options till Thiago Silva returns.
Kalidou Koulibaly, Wesley Fofana, Trevor Chalobah, and Benoit Badiashille will be up to take his place. However, when Chelsea plays 3 at the back, Cesar Azpilicueta could also be picked by Graham Potter.
