Sumit Nagal’s journey at the ATP Marrakech Open ended here on Wednesday, as he went down fighting against Italy’s Lorenzo Sonego 6-1, 3-6, 4-6 in the round of 16, on Wednesday. Even after winning the first set convincingly, Nagal lacked momentum in the following two and lost in the second round.
Nagal, who prefers the clay surface, showed how good he can be in 6-1 set win, but later perhaps fatigue set in his match. Sonego, ranked 61st in the world made full use of this and returned with 6-3, 6-4 performance to win the match. Meanwhile, this would have only been the second time if Sumit Nagal had managed to reach the quarters of the ATP event.

On the other hand, Yuki Bhambri reached the quarters in the men’s doubles competition along with his French partner Albano Olivetti. The duo secured a 6-3, 6-4 victory over the Dutch-Greek duo of Bart Stevens and Petros Tsitsipas.
Nagal Improving by Leaps & Bounds
Sumit Nagal has been in decent form this year as he made it to the second round of the Australian Open, earlier in the year. He had managed to beat 31st seed Alexander Bublik in the first round itself, but lost out to Chinese Shang Juncheng in the second.
Despite the loss, Nagal is all set to reach a new career-high ranking of 90. As per the ATP live rankings, he has 656 points in the kitty.
