Indian tennis veteran Rohan Bopanna and his partner Matthew Ebden, advanced to the men’s doubles final of the Miami Open with a convincing victory over Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos. The duo, reigning Australian Open champions, secured a straight-set win of 6-1, 6-4 in the semifinals on Thursday evening.
Bopanna, who temporarily slipped to the second spot in the doubles rankings due to recent tournament exits, is set to reclaim the top position following this semifinal triumph. This victory comes as a timely boost after a quarterfinal loss at the Dubai Championships and a round-of-32 exit at the Indian Wells Masters.
The 44-year-old Bopanna had previously ascended to the world No.1 spot in the ATP rankings after winning the Australian Open, making him the oldest player to achieve this milestone.
In the upcoming final, Bopanna and Ebden will face off against Ivan Dodig from Croatia and American Austin Krajicek, who defeated the German pair of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Putz in the other semifinal.
This marks Bopanna’s 14th ATP Masters 1000 final appearance and the first in Miami, adding to his impressive tally of 63 ATP Tour-level finals. Additionally, it will be the fifth time Bopanna and Ebden have reached an ATP Masters 1000 final together.
