A few days have passed since Nick Kyrgios took a potshot at legendary Boris Becker, but the entire drama has ceased to die down. In the latest exchange between the two tennis stars, German Becker told Eurosport, that Kyrgios needs to ‘respect the past’.
“We live in a democracy,” Becker said on Eurosport Germany’s “Das Gelbe vom Ball” podcast. “Everyone can think what he wants. You have to have respect for the past and simply say ‘thank you’ out loud that these old pros existed, because without them the tennis circus would no longer exist.”
He further added, “They popularised the sport, they drew viewers to the television. You can see the result today. There has never been so much prize money, there has never been so much publicity as there is today. And that’s because of the legends.”
But that did not go down well with Kyrgios obviously, and he retaliated. On social media, the Aussie tennis star went on to say, ‘guy is ridiculous’.
Start of Kyrgios vs Becker
The entire Kyrgios vs Becker drama had started when during an interview with The Athletic, the Aussie spoke about how tennis has evolved over the years, and someone like Becker would not be able to compete in today’s era. Becker also replied with equal force and challenged Krygios’ credibility for lack of Grand Slam titles as a player.
