The Russian had to dig deep in his last-16 Australian Open match, having to make a comeback from being 2-1 down in the third set.

The Russian wore down the 10th-seeded Australian 6-4, 6-7 (5/7), 6-7 (4/7), 6-3, 6-0 over a draining four hours and 14 minutes on Rod Laver Arena. It was Rublev’s 300th career Tour-level victory that sent him into a mouth-watering quarter-final clash with Jannick Sinner.

Speaking about his next opponent after the match, Rublev sounded wary of Sinner, who beat the Russian the last time the two faced each other.

“Jannik is one more player who had an unreal season last year… Already amazing results this year. He beat me last time so… I don’t know what to say.. looks like I’m in trouble,” Rublev said after his match with Alex De Minau.
