Taylor Fritz has beaten last year’s runner-up Stefanos Tsitsipas to set up a clash with Novak Djokovic at the Australian Open 2024. The No. 1 ranked American has not fared well at the first Slam of the year but put up a splendid display against the number seven seed to earn himself a first Australian Open quarterfinal.
The 12th seed remained dominant through the match, despite losing the second set. The American has found success on the ATP Tour but has failed to step up at the Grand Slam despite being seeded at the majors in the last four years.
Now, Taylor Fritz has claimed his first ever top-10 win at the Grand Slam level, beating Tsitsipas 7-6(3), 5-7, 6-3, 6-3.
Despite impressing with his stellar performance and management of nerves, it all gets much more difficult for Taylor Fritz from here on. His next opponent is World No. 1 and 10-time champion Novak Djokovic. The Serb himself is coming off a dominant win over Adrian Mannarino and has an excellent record against Fritz.
Having met eight times in the last five years, Fritz has yet to win a match over the 24-time Grand Slam champion. To make matters worse, five of these eight matches have come on hard courts. This losing streak also includes his 5-set loss to Djokovic at the 2021 Australian Open.
