Jannik Sinner and his great run at the Australian Open 2024 continue. The fourth seed claimed yet another straight set over fifteenth seed Karen Khachanov to reach his second quarterfinal in Australia.
Continuing his dominance, Sinner broke Khachanov’s serve five times in the match and dispatched the Russian 6-4, 7-5, 6-3 in 2 hours and 34 minutes.
The Italian has been on a great year since late last year, winning the China, Canadian, Vienna Open, and the Davis Cup. The 21-year-old also made the final of the ATP Finals, losing to Novak Djokovic.
This is Sinner’s second time reaching the quarterfinals at the Australian Open. The Italian made the final eight in 2022 but couldn’t back it up last year, bowing out in the fourth round to Stefanos Tsitsipas in five sets.
For the fourth seed to make his first-ever semifinal at the Australian Open, he’ll have to go through fifth seed Andrey Rublev or tenth seed Alex de Minaur.
Luckily for Jannik Sinner, he has a winning record against both. He has a 4-2 record against Rublev, including a win in their single encounter on hard court. Against de Minaur, he’s even better. He has yet to lose to the Australian, including a win over him at the Australian Open in 2022.
