Teenage sensation Linda Caicedo collapses for second time in three days

Linda Caicedo, a teenage FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 wonder, collapses for the second time in three days after scoring a spectacular goal.

Linda Caicedo, a FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023 star, has collapsed for the second time in three days after scoring a tournament-winning goal. The Colombian superstar, who only six months ago survived cancer, collapsed on the pitch.

It was immediately following her amazing goal as her team struggled for a place in the Women’s World Cup knockout stages. This comes only days after she fainted after a workout.

Caicedo, 18, was dribbling with the ball when she came to a halt and clutched the left side of her chest. She then attempted to sit down but collapsed, presumably unconscious, within seconds. Colombian medical personnel hurried over as anxiety gripped the camp, with horrified teammates anticipating the worst.

Caicedo regained consciousness by the time she was placed on a stretcher, loaded into an ambulance, and driven to a nearby hospital. And she was able to fully heal in readiness to compete against the Germans.

Caicedo demonstrated that she had not lost any of her skill by scoring the game-winning goal for Colombia in the 52nd minute. She gathered a loose ball in the German box, skillfully dribbled past a defender, and then fired a beautiful shot into the top corner.

Caicedo was concerned when she looked to fall again in the 83rd minute. Footage showed her down on the pitch, being assisted by medical personnel.

She was ultimately assisted to her feet and escorted to the sidelines. However, rather than substituting her, the girl was permitted to continue playing. In the sixth minute of stoppage time, Marcela Restrepo took her spot.

Caicedo was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in February 2020, at the age of 15, right before the pandemic. She needed surgery to remove a malignancy and six months of chemotherapy before returning to the football pitch.
