Ashish “Ash” Bhatnagar is one of the foremost figures in the BGMI esports scene. Being an IGL of a team isn’t easy for anyone, but his ability to do so with ease is quite admirable. Currently, Ash is competing in the BGMI Master Series, an offline tournament organized by NODWIN Gaming in collaboration with Star Sports, with a prize pool of ₹1,50,00,000 INR. His team, Orangutan, is currently in second place in the overall standings after the conclusion of week 2. Ash got candid in an exclusive interview with InsideSport recently, where he speaks about team synergy, and their aim to win the event.

Being the IGL of the squad, how do you keep your players motivated to perform well? With whom do you have the best synergy?

My synergy is good with each and every member of the team. As I am the IGL of the team, I need to maintain a good synergy with everyone. About motivating players, if one player is feeling low, we all try to motivate the player to perform well in the matches. When we are on the stage, we huddle and shout “OG” to boost and motivate ourselves.

Two weeks have already concluded and the team finished in the second position on the leaderboard. How is Team Orangutan planning for last week’s finals?

For BGMI Masters Series Week 3 finals, we are aiming for the first rank. Last week, we were at the top of the leaderboard but Team XO played very well and secured three back-to-back chicken dinners. This amazing performance put them on the top of the leaderboard. We are ready to perform better than Team XO this week and take the first spot.

Krafton is set to host a BGMI LAN event later this month with seeding in PMWI 2022 Afterparty Showdown. How is the Team preparing for that?

We are currently playing this LAN, but our main goal is to play in PMWI 2022 obviously. We are aiming for the slot in the upcoming global event. We are practicing for the upcoming battle to secure the seeding in PMWI 2022. However, Team Orangutan is aiming to win the BGMI Masters Series LAN first.

There is a thing that’s being said if the IGL of the squad is eliminated early, it is better for the team. Do you agree with that?

It depends on the strategy of the team and how the team is playing. I can guide the players while staying alive in the game. If I get eliminated early, then I can watch each player’s perspective and give good calls. But for me both situations are fine.

Which team is the biggest hurdle between your team and the trophy?

I will say two team names, Team XO and OR Esports. Both teams are playing really well at this tournament, but we will perform better than them this week.

Do you believe that the gap that has come with the ban in India, will affect how Indian players perform against international teams at PUBG Mobile World Invitational 2022?

Already, one year has passed since the release of BGMI in India. Teams have been practicing for one year and the competition is really high in BGMI events. It will not be that tough for Indian teams to perform against global teams, but then it’s global, so you never know!

BGMI Masters Series 2022 week 3 finals are currently being live-streamed on Star Sports 2, Loco, and Glance Live daily between 8.00 pm to 10.30 pm till 17th July. The tournament is also being broadcasted in Hindi, Tamil & English.
