The Afghanistan cricket team’s media manager Hikmat Hassan said there is no doubt with regards to participating in the T20 World Cup and the board is keen to go ahead with a tri-series involving Australia and West Indies to help in preparations for the showpiece event.

“Yes, we will play in the T20 World Cup. The preparations are on and the available players will be back to training in Kabul in the next few days. We are looking for a venue for the tri-series involving Australia and West Indies and that will be the best preparation for the showpiece event. We are speaking to some countries like Sri Lanka and also I think Malaysia. Let’s see how that pans out. We are already set to play Pakistan in Hambantota and that series is also on. Also, we are planning to go ahead with the domestic T20 tournament which shall boost preparations for the players ahead of the T20 World Cup,” Hassan told ANI.

Taliban in Afghanistan: Afghan all-rounder, Mohammad Nabi, who had captained his side in limited-overs matches extended out a Tweet seeking help amid the danger.

– Rashid Khan begins crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for countrymen in crisis.

– The militants have taken control of almost all the cricket stadiums in the country.

– The takeover of cricket stadiums is a major blow to Afghanistan Cricket, especially with the IPL 2021 and the T20 World Cup in sight.

– Afghanistan Cricket’s future hangs in the balance with the T20 World Cup just over two months away from kicking off in the UAE.

– Their worried superstar trio Rashid Khan, Mujeeb ur Rahman and Mohammad Nabi are currently in the UK for The Hundred, the rest of the team is currently at home.

In his Tweet, Nabi mentioned, “As an Afghan, I bleed to see where my beloved country is today. Afghanistan descends into Chaos and there has been a substantial rise in calamity and tragedy and is currently in humanitarian crisis. Families are forced to leave their homes behind and head to Kabul with an unknown future, as their homes are being seized. I appeal to the leaders of the world; please don’t let Afghanistan go into chaos. We need your Support.  We want Peace. #PeaceforAfghanistan #FreedomforAfghanistan #StopKillingAfghans.

Just a few days back, Afghanistan’s famous leg spinner- Rashid Khan appealed to the world leaders to help his countrymen.

Dear World Leaders! My country is in chaos, thousand of innocent people, including children & women, get martyred everyday, houses & properties being destructed.Thousand families displaced.. Don’t leave us in chaos. Stop killing Afghans & destroying Afghanistan. We want peace,” Rashid Khan had tweeted.

The situation in Afghanistan is getting worse day by day where their civilians are struggling to take refuge. The terrorist attacks in Afghanistan have risen since the US started withdrawing its troops on May 1.

Will Rashid, Nabi play IPL 2021 Phase 2 in UAE: The BCCI is keeping an eye on the developments and is hoping to see participation of Afghan players in the India Premier League.

“It is too early to comment but we are keeping a watch. For us, nothing changes and we expect Rashid and other Afghan players would be part of IPL,” a BCCI source told PTI.

It remains to be seen if Rashid and Nabi stay back in the UK after completion of ‘The Hundred’ on August 21 as they have families back home. And if they stay back in UK, it will be interesting to see if the BCCI asks them to be on the same charter flight that will take the Indian players to the UAE from Manchester on September 15.

Both Rashid and Nabi play for Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The BCCI is expected to speak with the Afghanistan Cricket Board on the situation.

As per ICC’s FTP schedule, Afghanistan are scheduled to tour Sri Lanka for six white-ball games this month but the final schedule is still not out yet. Rashid is Afghanistan’s T20 captain. Rashid, Nabi and Mujeeb Zadran are some of the Afghanistan players who are regular feature in IPL teams.
