Taipei Open Badminton LIVE: India’s Parupalli Kashyap started his Taipei Open campaign with a dominant display against qualifier Chi Yu Jen. The Indian, who is the third seed in this tournament won the match 24-22, 21-10 to advance to second round of the tournament. Kiran George too sailed past Ade Dwichayo in straight games to book a  spot in the second round. Mithun Manjunath defeated Kim Jung Bruun 21-17, 21-15 to enter second round. Meanwhile Malvika Bansod crashed out of the tournament from the first round, after losing to Chinese Taipei’s Liang Ting Yu 21-10, 15-21, 14-21. Mithun Manjunath and Priyanshu Rajawat too won their first round matches on Wednesday. While Manjunath defeated Kim Jung Bruun in straight games, Priyanshu Rajawat sailed past Chinese Taipei’s Yu Sheng Po by winning the contest 21-16, 21-15. In the women’s singles Samiya Farooqui is the only remaining player from India as she defeated Malaysia’s Kisona Selvaduray 21-15, 21-11.

Parupalli Kashyap vs Chi Yu Jen

Kashyap started the game by trailing 1-3 in the first game. He however soon found the momentum as he won five straight points to take 6-3 lead. He then entered the interval with a six point advantage with the score reading 11-5. After the interval, Chi Yu Jen gave a brilliant comeback as he fought valiantly to level the score 19-19. He gave a big scare to the third seed and a neck-to-neck battle ensued between the two players. Kashyap with all his experience kept calm and managed to win the first game 24-22.

In the second game, Kashyap started dominating right from the beginning as he raced to a 9-0 lead and entered the interval with the score at 11-2. He continued to assert his dominance after the break and didn’t allow his opponent to make a comeback as he raced to a 16-2 lead and sealed the match in 37 minutes by winning the second game 21-10.

Kiran George vs Ade Dwichayo 

Kiran George started the game by trailing 3-6, he however managed to get five points on the trot to lead 8-6. But Dwichayo fought back to enter the interval with a 11-8 lead in the first game. After the break, both the players were involved in a neck to neck battle and Kiran George finally managed to break the deadlock by winning the first game 23-21.

In the second game too right from the start, both the players fought well with the score at 5-5. However, the tide soon shifted in favour of Kiran George who gained the momentum and entered the interval leading 11-5. Dwichayo’s continued o showcase his never-say-die attitude as he bounced back to take 14-13 lead in the second game. Kiran George soon fought back and from 14-16, he won six successive points to get to four match points and closed out the game 21-17 to progress to the second round.

Mithun Manjunath vs Kim Jung Bruun

Mithun Manjunath started the first game on the backfoot as Kim Bruun led right rom the start and entered the interval with a 11-8 lead. Mithun Manjunath slowly clawed his way back into the contest after the interval and finally managed to take the lead with the score at 17-16. He then put pressure on his opponent and won the first game 21-17.

In the second game too Bruun started off positively by leading 5-2. Unlike the first game, Manjunath found his footig much early in the game as he fought back to enter the interval with a narrow 11-10 lead. From then on, Manjunath started dominating the game and didn’t allow his opponent to make a comeback as the Indian closed out the match in 41 minutes by winning the second game 21-15,

Priyanshu Rajawat vs Yu Sheng Po 

Priyanshu Rajawat started the first game on the backfoot as he trailed 3-6. He managed to take the led just before the interval but lost it as Sheng Po entered the interval with a narrow 11-10 lead. However, after the break Rajawat fought his way back in the contest and managed to take the lead and closed out the first game 21-16.

In the second game, both the players were involved in a tough fight right from the start. Rajawat however didn’t allow his opponent to take the lead and entered the interval leading 11-9. Rajawat continued to hold on to his lead and managed to defeat Yu Sheng Po in straight games in just 29 minutes.

Chirag Sen vs Lin Chun-yi 

India’s Chirag Sen, who is ranked 96th in the world will face Chinese Taipei’s 85th ranked Lin Chun Yi in the first round of the Taipei Open. Sen has not gone past the second round in any of the tournament this year. Similarly, Chun Yi too has featured in only three tournaments so far and is yet to go past the second round.

Women’s Singles 

Malvika Bansod vs Liang Ting Yu

Malvika Bansod suffered a shocking exit in the first round against an opponent who is ranked at a lowly 171 in the world. Bansod started the match on a positive note as she led in the first game and entered the break with a 11-8 lead. Soon after the interval, it became an one-sided affair as Bansod raced to a 17-8 lead and closed out the first game 21-10.

Liang Tin Yu started the second game by taking a 4-0 lead. Bansod managed to fightback and led the game 7-6. However, Tin Yu put pressure on the Indian and entered the interval with a 11-8 lead. Despite trying hard, Bansod couldn’t get back the lead as she lost the second game 15-21. In the decider, Tin Yu maintained her lead right from the beginning and enterd the interval with a three-point lead as the score read 11-8. After the break, Tin Yu completely outplayed Bansod as she raced from 14-12 to 19-12 in quick succession. From then on, it was easy for the Taiwanese as she won the game 21-14 and pulled off a brilliant come-from behind victory.

Men’s Doubles 

In the men’s doubles, India’s Ishaan Bhatnagar and Sai Pratheek will be facing Thailand’s Charoenkitamorn and Yordphaisong in the first round.

Seventh seed Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala will be up against Hong Kong’s Law Cheuk Him and Lee Chun Hei in the first round.

PS Ravikrishna and SP Udaykumar are the unseeded pair who are in the same quarter and they begin their campaign against Chinese Taipei’s Lin Shang Kai and Tseng Min Hao in the first round.

India’s fifth seeded pair Dhruv Kapila and MR Arjun will be facing Chinsese Taipei’s Lin Yu-chieh and Su Li Wei in the opening round.

47th ranked duo Ishan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto who are the sixth seed in this tournament will begin their campaign on Tuesday. They face Israel’s unseeded Misha Zilberman and Svetlana Zilberman in the first round. The Indian duo’s best performance this year is reaching the second round at Asia Championships. They will look to better their performance at Chinese Taipei as they find themselves as seeded pair.
