The trio is expected to join the Indian team squad Down Under at Perth. The team, which reached last week, has been playing practice matches and breaking lot of sweat at practice in the venue as well.

In all of this, one can consider Shardul to be lucky in boarding the flight. He came into the picture when Chahar was ruled out. Interestingly, just a couple of days back before the India vs South Africa second ODI, Shardul expressed his disappointment of missing on the squad. He had said “There is definitely disappointment. It’s every player’s dream to play and win a World Cup.”

In fact, he was targeting the 2023 Cricket World Cup in India. But his big wish has definitely come true to a certain extent. He might not be in the core squad yet for the T20 World Cup, but this a definitely a step in the right path as far as his World Cup ambitions are concerned.

As for Chahar, it is a massive disappointment. The speedster was being looked at a potential replacement for Jasprit Bumrah, but the back injury seems to have been a bigger problem than expected. Despite the latter being ruled out around a week ago, India have not named his replacement. They need to do so before October 15.

With Shami, Siraj and Shardul heading to Australia together, one of them will grab the replacement spot. It us just a matter of formality with Shami set to be named as Bumrah’s replacement. With the kind of experience Shami brings to the table, he is the best candidate.

There is a great chance that Shami would play the opening game against Pakistan on October 23 at the MCG. However, the team management will be eager to check upon his fitness as India play two practice matches after he lands in Australia. They face Australia and New Zealand in October 17 and 19 respectively.
