India’s tearaway pace bowler Umran Malik and Kuldeep Sen had to delay their departure to Australia for the T20 World Cup due to visa issues. Cricbuzz now reports that the duo will play their part in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and not travel Down Under. In their absence, Saurabh Kumar, Chetan Sakariya and Mukesh Chaudhary will serve as net bowler. The trio have already landed in Australia.

Malik caught the attention of the cricketing world by bowling the fastest delivery in IPL’s history by an Indian when he touched the 157 kmph-mark. The 22-year-old will now feature in the J&K squad for the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) in Mohali, according to reports. The Indian cricket board handed the Sunrisers star an exemption to join the Jammu and Kashmir team in Mohali, where they face Meghalaya.

Once being pushed for a berth in the World Cup squad, Umran had a lacklustre couple of outings in international cricket. The 22-year-old pacer however has been kept around as a net bowler to help the Indian batsmen acclimatize to the pace on offer.

Like Umran, Kuldeep Sen’s departure has also been delayed. There is no clarity on whether he would feature for Madhya Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy fixture against Rajasthan in Rajkot on Tuesday.

Initially, Umran, Mohammed Siraj, and Sen were scheduled to fly with the India squad to their training base in Perth on October 6. However, Siraj got picked for the ODI series against South Africa and Umran had to miss the flight due to visa issues.

As per reports, Shardul Thakur has replaced Chahar and will be taking the flight to Australia alongside Mohammad Shami and Mohammed Siraj on Thursday. Meanwhile, reserves Shreyas Iyer and Ravi Bishnoi will also stay back in India. The former joins his domestic side Mumbai in the ongoing SMAT20 shortly.
