Now selectors are set to reward him with ticket to T20 World Cup in UAE.

India’s T20 World Cup Team: 5 big questions before selectors ahead of announcing Team India’s team for WC

“Surya performed well in the limited overs series against England at home and the series in Sri Lanka. He can handle pressure, a trait that always works in his favour,” according to a source quoted by The Telegraph.

Along with Surya, another Mumbai Indians team member Rahul Chahar also is set to get a look in. Chahar is set to trump over Varun Chakravarthy and Washington Sundar. Both are likely to lose out to Chahar owing to fitness issues.

T20 WC Team Selection at 9 PM IST- Few more questions in front of the Indian Selectors
Will Shikhar Dhawan be offered a spot?

With KL Rahul and Rohit Sharma showcasing an already set chemistry as the opening pair across formats, the place for Shikhar Dhawan has slightly gone in shaky boots. Besides, Virat Kohli’s statement of keeping Shikhar Dhawan a ‘third opener’ during the T20I series against England in Ahmedabad has raised question marks over Dhawan’s inclusion in the squad.

Hardik Pandya’s role considering he is struggling with fitness and form

Even after optimally recovering from the back injury, Pandya has shown off-shore performance with the bat and the ball. From the first leg of IPL to performing in the white-ball series against Sri Lanka overseas, the Indian allrounder has been an utter disappointment. His resumed bowling in T20Is continues to be uneconomical which is further marred by his poor performance with willow. This has put his selection at stake for the prestigious ICC tournament.

Washington Sundar’s injury decision

Washington Sundar’s selection is yet another decision that lingers large on the selection committee, something which has more to do with Sundar’s recovery from the injury. Indian allrounder, who fractured his finger during the practice match in England has been ruled out of the second leg of IPL 2021 following similar woes.

His inclusion decision has to be dealt wisely because if he fails to fully recover after being selected, India would be void of a backup player in the tournament.

Shardul Thakur or Deepak Chahar- number eight conundrum

A rustling rivalry among the bowlers has emerged, this time for their batting skills at number eight. Shardul Thakur and Deepak Chahar, two have given reasons to make them favourites for selection by the dint of their batting performance. While Thakur has time and again lent crucial runs in the red ball, Chahar’s batting repertoire still shines for his 69 run knock in the ODI against Sri Lanka overseas. The choice among these bowlers has to be made keeping in mind their batting skills.

How many additional players will India carry?

Alongside the squad of 15 squad members, the Indian team can fairly carry five extra players as reserves. The reserved players’ category might see Varun Chakravarthy, Prithvi Shaw alongside the other three players which the selectors deem fit for the tournament.
