Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Vidarbha beat Maharashtra – Brilliant half-centuries by Atharva Taide and captain Akshay Wadkar helped Vidarbha to qualify for quarterfinals by defeating Maharashtra in pre-quarterfinals on Tuesday. Taide and Wadekar shared a brilliant partnership stand of 96 runs to chase the target of 158 set by Maharashtra. Vidarbha has 6-match winning streak in SMAT 2021. They will now face Rajasthan in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
After opting to bowl first, Vidarbha got an early wicket of Maharashtra’s captain Naushad Shaikh for golden duck. However, Vidarbha bowlers struggled a bit as Rahul Tripathi and Yash Nahar shared 64-run partnership for the second wicket. Tripathi scored a decent 66 runs off 45 balls. After Rahul Tripathi’s wicket at 121/4, Maharashtra’s middle order couldn’t stabilize the batting line-up as in the last 5 overs, they lost four wickets in 36 runs. Tripathi’s half-century helped Maharashtra post decent total on the board. Vidarbha Yash Thakur scalped three wickets, while Akshay Karnewar picked two wickets.

Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy: Vidarbha beat Maharashtra – In response to the target of 158, Vidarbha lost an early wicket of Siddhesh Wath for a duck. Nonetheless, batting line-up was revived by Atharva Taide (56 off 38 balls) and Akshay Wadkar (58 off 47 balls) with brilliant partnership stand of 96 runs. Skipper Wadkar and Shubham Dubey (28 off 7 balls) added 42-run partnership for fourth wicket to chase down the target. Maharashtra couldn’t do justice to their bowling as Azim Kazi, Mukesh Choudhary and Ashay Palkar scalped only one wicket each.
