Swiss Open Badminton LIVE: – Two-time champion Saina Nehwal faced a crushing defeat as she lost against Malaysia’s Kisona Selvaduray 21-17, 13-21, 13-21 in the second round of Swiss Open on Thursday. While PV Sindhu defeated Turkey’s Neslikan Yigit 21-19, 21-14 to advance to the quarter-finals. Earlier, World No.12 Kidambi Srikanth clinched a terrific 13-21, 25-23, 21-11 victory over France’s Christo Popov to seal a place in quarterfinals. HS Prannoy to sealed a spot in the quarterfinals with a come from behind victory against Finland’s Kalle Koljonen. PV Sindhu clinched a comfortable straight set victory against Turkey’s Neslikan Yigit to sail into the quarter-finals of the Swiss Open on Thursday. Sindhu started the game with a 6-3 lead, however the Turkish World No.30 put up a brave fight to enter the break with a 11-9 lead. Sindhu fought back and a neck-to-neck battle ensued. But Sindhu took the first set by winning it 21-19.
It was Sindhu’s show in the second set as she asserted her domination throughout the second set. She unleashed powerful smashes which Yigit struggled to defend as Sindhu wrapped up the set 21-13 to enter the quarter-finals.

Saina Nehwal who is on a comeback trail after a bout of injuries last year was at her dominant best as she breezed past France’s Yalle Hoyaux in straight sets in the first round of the Swiss Open. She faces another opponent who made a direct entry to the main round from the qualifiers in Malaysia’s Kisona Selvaduray.
Selvaduray defeated Switzerland’s qualifier Nadia Fankhauser 21-13, 21-11 in the first round. Saina enters the contest as the favourite and she can be exected to continue her dominance. But Selvaduray has gained confidence from her first round victory and will to put up a good fight and challenge the higher ranked Indian.
The duo will play for the second time in their career after Saina Nehwal thrashed her at 2021 Thailand Open 21-15, 21-15.
Kidambi Srikanth [IND] vs Christo Popov [FRA]
Kidambi Srikanth managed to pull off a stunning victory from the jaws of defeat as he made a terrific comeback after losing the first set to clinch a 13-21, 25-23, 21-11 victory over Christo Popov. With the win he has now entered the quarter-finals and will face second seed Anders Anderson.
Kidambi Srikanth was dominated by Popov in the first set. Srikanth struggled to pick up the left hander’s terrific cross court smashes and couldn’t do much as he surrendered in the first set. He however got back into the groove in the second set and displayed a strong fight. Popov however didn’t concede much lead and was in the game. The game began swinging like a pendulum until the score were 23-23. Popov gave a big scare to Srikanth but the Indian was calm under pressure and got the valuable two points to stretch the game into the third set.
Srikanth started dominating the third set right from the start and showcased all his experience. Popov who fought hard in the first two sets couldn’t even come close to the Indian as Srikanth won the set comfortably 21-11 to enter the quarter-final.
Men’s Doubles
Chirag-Rankireddy [IND] lost to Kusumawardana-Rambitan [INS] 21-19, 22-20
Third seed Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy faced shocking defeat against Indonesia’s unseeded Yeremiya Rambitan and Pramudya Kusumawardana in straight sets in the second round of Swiss Open on Thursday.
The Indonesian duo dominated the contest right from the start as they raced to a 7-0 lead as soon as the game begun. The Indonesia duo were too strong and looked set to win the first set easily as they were leading 18-11. Satwik and Chirag however made a terrific fightback by taking eight consecutive points and took the lead 19-18. But the Indionesian duo kept their coll and snatched the first set 21-19.
The Indians gave a much better performance in the second set. But they lost the plot towards the end as they were unable to match the spirited Indonesians as they won the second set 22-20.
