Despite being a member of the Indian squad for quite some time, Bengal and Delhi Capitals pacer Mukesh Kumar is set to extend his run on the bench for the India vs West Indies 2nd Test match. While Rahul Dravid and Rohit Sharma continue to brainstorm about the inclusion of Axar Patel in the team, Mukesh Kumar will have to sit out for the upcoming game.
India Playing XI 2nd Test: Axar vs Jaydev, last chance for Gill at No 3?
Does he not deserve a chance on the team? Absolutely, he does. But given the competition in the squad, it will be difficult for Mukesh to get his Test cap for the Indian Cricket Team. While the pitch at the Queen’s Park Oval remains a mystery, the Indian team will make a call on its bowlers after getting a good glance at the pitch.
In the first Test, India banked on 3 pacers, and 2 spinners and in the second and final Test it remains to be seen if Axar Patel can get a chance in the place of Jaydev Unadkat. But Mukesh Kumar is highly unlikely to get his spot in the team in place of Unadkat.
Virat Kohli on verge of history, will join MS Dhoni-Tendulkar in elite list
Axar’s inclusion is very simple, should the pitch show any hit on turn he will get his spot as he is equally versatile with the bat and ball. Shardul Thakur who has that X-factor in him will partner Mohammed Siraj in spearheading the pace attack. With a strong bench and options available, it has certainly become difficult for Mukesh to get his chance despite Shami being rested for the series.
As far as the spinners in concerned Ravichandran Ashwin will continue to partner Ravindra Jadeja after the former’s exploits in the first game. If the pitch seems to be favour spin then Axar Patel will replace Jaydev Unadkat.
