Interim head coach Rumesh Ratnayaka has not looked convincing enough to bag a full-time contract, as under his stewardship, the Lions lost 4-1 in a T20I series against Australia, and most recently, were whitewashed by India in T20I and Test format.

According to reports in Daily Mail, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has turned their attention to Chris Silverwood to become the new head coach. The 47-year-old Englishman was sacked by England about seven weeks ago, following a humiliating 4-0 defeat against Australia in the Ashes. Having said that, the Yorkshire-born coach is reputed for his game management and analytical prowess, and could turn out to be a good appointment by Sri Lanka.
