RCB beats SRH in IPL 2021: Kane Williamson again benched, no place in Sunrisers XI for New Zealand’s captain After being ignored for the opening contest vs Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), one of the world’s best T20 batsman Kane Williamson again sat in Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). The decision backfired again as they ended up losing the match by 6 runs in the last over. They had lost the previous match against KKR by 10 runs.

IPL 2021: RCB beats SRH

In Kane Williamson’s absence, Jonny Bairstow failed to do well in his absence scoring just 12 runs off 13 balls. Wriddhiman Saha also failed to put a show, losing his wicket for just 1 run. As a result, SRH have now lost back to back matches in the first two outings in IPL 2021.

It is surprising that SRH’s management decided to ignore Williamson’s creds and records for another game.

RCB beats SRH in IPL 2021: – Kane Willaimson again benched, no place in Sunrisers XI for New Zealand’s captain – Kane Williamson stats in IPL

  • Williamson who is currently World’s no. 1 test batsman had a great IPL 2020 in which he had scored 317 runs at an average 45.28 with a strike rate of 134.
  • Overall in IPL, Kiwi’s T20 captain has 1,619 runs in 53 matches at an average of 39.48, which includes 15 fifties.
  • Overall, the 30-year-old has amassed over 5,100 runs in 202 T20 matches with the help of a century and 37 half-centuries.

SRH is playing David Warner (c), Jonny Bairstow, Jason Holder & Rashid Khan as 4 foreign players in XI. Williamson has been ignored vis a vis these players.

One can understand David Warner being captain preferred over Williamson but it is hard to digest Bairstow getting a nod ahead of Williamson and that too when the team has another specialist wicket-keeper in form of Wriddhiman Saha in the XI.

In comparison to the above record of Williamson, Bairstow played 11 games for SRH in IPL 2020 and scored 345 runs with an average of 31.36 and a strike rate of 126 – both in comparison to Williamson are shade below.

Sunrisers Hyderabad (Playing XI) vs RCB: Wriddhiman Saha(w), David Warner(c), Manish Pandey, Jonny Bairstow, Vijay Shankar, Jason Holder, Abdul Samad, Rashid Khan, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T Natarajan, Shahbaz Nadeem

Earlier on Sunday, SunRisers Hyderabad coach Trevor Bayliss had said that Kane Williamson needs a bit of extra time to get to his match fitness.

“We just felt that Kane needed a little bit of extra time to get match fit and a little bit more time in the nets. He would have played in place of Jonny Bairstow obviously if that had occurred. But we aren’t too perturbed about that, Jonny has been in form recently in white-ball cricket here in India. Kane will obviously come into calculations as the tournament unfolds,” Bayliss had spoken in a virtual press conference after the game.
