Iga Swiatek gives update on thigh injury, hopes to be fit before French Open
On Thursday, she took to Twitter and wrote “Quick update. A couple of days off for sure. And booking my flight to Paris, so…fingers crossed, please! Hopefully, see you soon.”
Swiatek was facing Elena Rybakina for the third time this season on Wednesday at the Italian Open. Swiatek lost both their previous meetings and was aiming for a revenge. She won the first set 6-2 but the second set went into the tie-breaker and Rybakina won it to take the contest into the decider.
During the tie-break Swiatek appeared to have injured herself. She soon took a medical time-out during the break. She began to play the deciding set with her thigh strapped. Despite struggling to move freely, she won two games. However unable to continue anymore, she pulled out of the contest.
With her pull out, her win streak of 14-straight games has come to an end. The Polish 21-year old is the favourite to lift the French Open title this year. She has won two titles in the clay court major so far and hopes to be fit enough by the time the tournament gets underway this year from 28th May 2023.
