Alcaraz dethroned Djokovic from the top spot two weeks back after winning the Indian Wells Masters 2023. He won his maiden title at Indian Wells and with that he raised his points tally to 7,420 points. It was 260 points more than that of Djokovic.

However the 19-year old had to win the Miami Open too in order to retain his spot. He was defending 1000 points in Miami as he won the title in the tournament last year.  The teenager showed terrific form in Miami as he reached the semifinal by winning all his matches in straight games.
