PV Sindhu vs Gregoria Mariska Tunjung

Sindh’s hopes of reaching her second final in the BWF Tour this year came to a crashing end. The sixth seed in the tournament lost in straight games against Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.

Sindhu began the contest with a lead as she entered the interval with a three-point advantage with the score at 11-8. However after the interval, Tunjung made a comeback. She levelled the scores 12-12 and from there took four successive points to go up 16-12. Sindhu could only get two points as Tunjung closed out the first game 21-14.

In the second game too, SIndhu started off with an early lead. But Tunjung soon snatched away the lead as with three successive points she went up 5-4. Sindhu tried to reduce the deficit but a misjudgeded leave from her at the baseline helped Tunjung enter the interval with a two-point lead.

Tunjung looked firmly in control in the second half of the game. She kept SIndhu on her toes and got to the match point by taking a 2014 lead. Sindhu was able to save three match points but a net-error from the Indian helped Tunjung win the contest and advance to the final.

HS Prannoy vs Christian Adinata

HS Prannoy has entered his first final in the BWF Tour this season. Prannoy began the contest on a dominating fashion. He straighaway took seven straight points and entered the interval with a massive 11-1 lead.

Adinata however made a terrific comeback after the interval as he began collecting points in consecutive streaks. He soon reduced his deficit to 11-14 and soon managed to level the scores 15-15.

Prannoy however didn’t let him snatch away the lead as a neck-to-neck battle ensued between both the players. When Prannoy was leading 19-17, Adinata went for a smash and landed awakwardly thatr resulted in a freak injury to his knee.

He was down immediately and grimaced in pain unable to move. After the medics checked on him, he decided to retire from the contest and was taken off the court on a wheelchair. Adinata was a qualifier in the tournament and he had a terrific season reaching all the way to the semifinal and it was a sad end to his campaign.
