Badminton Asia Championships: After taking a short break from Badminton, Lakshya Sen is all set to return to the circuit soon. Lakshya recently took a short break from Badminton to focus on his “mental and physical health”. The youngster has had a disappointing season in the BWF Tour this year so far. He failed to defend his title at the India Open. At the All England Championships, he lost in the second round. He also made a first-round exit at the German Open in March. This made him slip down to 24th spot in the Men’s Singles rankings.

Speaking about Lakshya’s performance so far, Vimal Kumar said, “So far it has not been very good. He lost lot of points. It was especially because he was the finalist at the All-England and German Open last year. He couldn’t defend the points this year and that has made him drop to World No.24. He also had his share of health issues that impacted his performances.”

Lakshya Sen undergoes Septoplasty:

One of the reasons behind his dip in form was his repeated illness, especially on European tours. The youngster suffered from a ‘deviated septum’, a condition that occurs when the wall between the nasal passages is displaced to one side. He could not breathe properly. Lakshya underwent septoplasty surgery towards the end of last year. However, even though it was a minor surgery, Vimal Kumar said that Lakshya took a lot of time to recover from it.

“Particularly the septoplasty has been troubling him. Especially in Europe where he has been constantly falling ill. However, he has recovered completely now. He has regained his health back. I can see him training properly now,” the coach added.

With the Olympic qualifications all set to begin in May, Vimal Kumar hopes Lakshya will get back to form and wants him to do well. “He has to do well and give better results in the coming tournaments. Hopefully, he should find his way back.”

Apart from Lakshya, HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth will be in action in the Men’s Singles in the Asia Badminton Championships 2023. PV Sindhu and Saina Nehwal will headline action in the Women’s Singles in the continental event.
