Hockey Asian Champions Trophy: Chennai witnessed the India vs Pakistan rivalry in Hockey on Wednesday, 9th August 2023. The Men in Blue gave joy to the crowd with a clincal 4-0 victory against the arch-rivals. The crowd at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium also caught a glimpse of cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, who was one of the special guests for the evening.

Just before the match began, the crowd gave a raucous reception to both the teams as the players ran into the field. Following that the cheers continued as Ashwin walked in alongside the Chief Minister of the State, MK Stalin, who were accompanied by the match officials and the President of Hockey India Dilip Tirkey.

Both Ashwin and Stalin went on to greeted the players from both the sides before the customary national anthems were played.

Ashwin then watched the proceedings from the VIP Box at the Kalaignar Centenary Pavilion as India went on to dominate the contest. Indian skipper scored a brace. The team came back in the second half and scored two more goals courtesy Jugraj SIngh and Mandeep Singh as India completed a 4-0 rout.

Ravichandran Ashwin is in action TNCA First Division League

India end the round-robin stage on top of the points table and entered the semifinal on the back of three successive wins. Ravichandran Ashwin meanwhile is currently in Chennai, playing the TNCA First Division League. He is representing his club Mylapore Recreational Club (MRC-A). He last played for India in the recently concluded Test series against West Indies.

The 36-year old has been playing non-stop cricket in 2023. He began the year with the four-match Test series against Australia at home. He then featured for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. In the World Test Championship Final against Australia, he did not make the cut to the playing XI. He then played few matches in the Tamil Nadu Premier League before boarding the flight to the West Indies.

Ashwin wreaked havoc against the West Indies in the recently concluded series. In the first Test match he took a tally of 12 wickets, playing a crucial role in India’s victory. In the rain-affected second Test he scalped three wickets as the Test match was draw. India sealed a 1-0 win in the series.
