Gareth Southgate offers lifeline to Jadon Sancho amid uncertain Man United future

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future at Old Trafford, England boss Gareth Southgate has not ruled out a potential future in the squad for the 23-year-old

Jadon Sancho’s time at Manchester United may be drawing to a close, but the England Football team door is still ajar. The Three Lions coach Gareth Southgate’s recent comments about Sancho will give the winger a ray of hope.

Sancho has fallen out with United boss Erik Ten Hag following the Dutch coach’s comments. Ten Hag had said Sancho was dropped for the 3-1 defeat to Arsenal because of a “bad attitude” in training.

The winger responded with a post on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). He claimed he was being made the scapegoat, and said he conducted himself perfectly in training that week. The response of Sancho which contradicted everything Ten Hag said infuriated the manager.

Multiple outlets have reported that the crisis negotiations between the two parties were unsuccessful. It is anticipated that the player will depart the club in the January transfer window. There are also rumours of ex-Premier League player Anwar El-Ghazi being considered as a potential replacement.

Southgate sounded optimistic about Sancho while speaking at a press conference ahead of the friendly against Scotland later today.

“I think that’s the challenge for him now. It’s been the best part of a couple of years since we worked with him, it’s difficult to say exactly the position that he finds himself and where he is with it all.

“But for every player that’s not with us, there is always an opportunity if they can seize the form and have the (right) level of performances,” Southgate said.
