Chasing 129 to win, David Warner and Aaron Finch made light work of the chase, taking the attack to the Sri Lankan bowlers in a fine batting performance. After an initial slow start, both Finch and Warner changed gears taking the attack to Dushmantha Chameera and Wanindu Hasaranga, two of Sri Lanka’s best bowlers.
Warner soon got to his fifty as Finch played the waiting as the hosts looked out of options to contain the flow of runs. The rain stoppages did not deter the Aussie openers, but only spurred them on, with Finch accelerating towards the end to reach his half-century. The Australian captain ended the game in style with a six, to guide Australia home with six overs to spare.
