All-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga, who tested positive for COVID-19 whilst being on tour in Australia, has travelled back to Sri Lanka as he has not made a full recovery yet. Wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis and leg-spinner Maheesh Theekshana also sustained injuries in that Australian series and have subsequently been ruled out.

Besides the trio, Shiran Fernando will also be unavailable as he has sustained a glute injury. In such a dire circumstance, the Sri Lankan team management can breathe a sigh of relief as Binura Fernando, who too tested positive for COVID-19 in the Australian tour.
He could replace either of Dushmantha Chameera and Lahiru Kumara, though going with an unchanged playing XI is another option the Lankan management has at their disposal. After losing the first match by 62 runs, the Lions will be desperate to stage a comeback.

- Binura Fernando to get a chance? Left-arm seamer Binura Fernando has been given the green signal by Sri Lanka’s medical team to feature in this match. He could replace either Dushmantha Chameera or Lahiru Kumara.
- Hasaranga, Mendis & Theekshana ruled out – Wanindu Hasaranga has travelled back to Sri Lanka and will miss this series, while Kusal Mendis and Maheesh Theekshana have also not recovered from their injuries.
- Dickwella, de Silva added to squad – Niroshan Dickwella and Dhananjaya de Silva have been added to the T20I squad.
- Will Gunathilaka come in for Liyanage? Among the few options Sri Lanka have in their ranks is Danushka Gunathilaka, who could replace Janith Liyanage.
