Hasaranga was involved in the recently-concluded five-match T20I series against Australia and played in the first couple of matches as well, but returned a positive test for COVID-19 just before the third match, ruling him out of the series. However, the 24-year-old has since returned a negative diagnosis and is fit to play from the first T20I itself.

- Danushka Gunathilaka to make a comeback? – Danushka Gunathilaka had a horrendous series as he scored only 27 runs in his four matches. He was rightfully dropped for the last game, but his replacement Kamil Mishara could not justify his selection either, scoring only one run. Hence, Gunathilaka could be in line to make a comeback.
- Experienced Dinesh Chandimal could also return – Dinesh Chandimal and Janith Liyanage will be at loggerheads for the number five role. Chandimal could be preferred owing to seniority, though Liyanage has also shown promise.
- Brilliant batting depth – Hasaranga’s return will not only bolster Sri Lanka’s bowling department but will also depth to their batting order. Chamika Karunaratne, an all-rounder who can be very handy with the bat, is likely to come at number 8 for the visitors, which says all you need to know about their batting department.
